Outreach and Mission
CARITAS helps our most vulnerable neighbors break the cycles of homelessness and addiction to reclaim their dignity. St. Philip's has been doing CARITAS ministry for about 15 years. There are many opportunities to serve in this very important ministry.
St. Philip's has a proud legacy in terms of our involvement with Girl Scouts. In 1939, the first Negro Brownie troop in the South was established at St. Philip's and we have had an active troop since that time. Girl Scouting is a great way for young ladies to gain life skills to help ensure success in family, school, and later in life. Girl Scout Troops #49, #462 and #643 meet at St. Philip's every second and fourth Tuesday evenings at 6 pm.
St. Philip's works to address the hunger issue in our neighborhood with our St. Francis Food Pantry. We distribute food on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month. We currently serve 80 to 100 families during each distribution. We also pick up food from the Richmond FeedMore area (formerly known as the Food Bank) on 2nd and 4th Thursdays at 8:00 am.
